The Reception devlog: how our dungeon game was built
Reception is our gacha dungeon game, now in alpha with testers. In eleven weeks it went from a dot wandering a grid,
a game you could only watch, to 26 heroes, player-led dungeons and a live alpha. We've written the whole story down:
six parts covering each burst of work, plus the 70 features we cut, seven decisions we changed our minds on, and the
numbers behind it all.
Easy is the game you know: 12 questions, and the board flips down every champion your answers rule out.
Medium gives you 15 questions, deals them at random from the very first round, and leaves the board to you:
nothing flips on its own. Hard gives you 20 questions and 10 guesses but takes the board away entirely. It's
just your questions, the answers, and your memory.
Each difficulty has its own leaderboard. We've also added nine questions drawn from champion lore: who's over a
thousand years old, who's been imprisoned, who's out for revenge, who has a sibling in the game, and more.
The site now wears our colors: maroon and gold, with the bell front and center. News lives here on the home page,
and our games and fan games each have a page of their own.
A League of Legends guessing game. A champion is hiding in the brush: ask yes-or-no questions, watch the ones you
rule out flip down, and name them in as few questions as you can. Join the leaderboard to get your best score on our
site, and use the suggestion box to send us question ideas or fixes.
Game pages, updates, support and privacy policies for every BellHop Studios game now live here at bellhopstudios.com.
